Spireclaw - Click here to go to the Spireclaw dedicated website Spireclaw is a psychological mystery novel set in present day London. It follows the story of Kieran Whyteleafe, a post-room worker in a large office block in the city. One day he is intrigued to find the word “Spireclaw” written on a window in the sub-basement of the building; because it triggers the memory of one scary night when he was much younger. This minor coincidence sets Kieran on a trajectory of personal detective work and discovery, bringing him into contact with an old newspaper from the Second World War, an audiocassette that wants to be heard, and a girl called Ashley. A reluctant relationship develops between Kieran and Ashley, because they share a common loss, and she joins his investigations into the subtleties of Spireclaw. The closer he looks at the puzzle, however, the more complex it becomes. There are forces at work that Kieran cannot comprehend, and there seems to be no limit to the depths which a man is prepared to go when faced with the possibility of losing those things which he treasures most. This novel is approx 56,000 words long and was written between October 2003 - October 2004.
